        "Nylons father was an immigrant to Taiwan from Fuzhou during the",
        "Japanese colonization, and his mom was Taiwanese. Nylon was",
        "considered a mainlander because of the KMT racial classification",
        "and patriarchal system assigning ethnicity according to the",
        "father with no account of the mother.",

        "He wrote, I was born the year the February 28 Incident happened",
        "and it has brought me lifelong trouble. The 228 incident spoke",
        "deeply to Nylon. Throughout his life it was illegal to speak",
        "of the 228 incident, just as it was illegal for him to declare ",
        "his Taiwanese identity.",

        "In 1984 he founded Freedom Era Weekly fighting for 100%",
        "freedom of speech and democracy in Taiwan. He applied for 24",
        "different licenses and changed magazine titles to withstand",
        "heavy cracking down and one year publication bans.",

        "In 1986 he helped organize the 519 Movement to call for the",
        "immediate end of martial law.",

        "In 1987 he organized a public demonstration for 228 Peace",
        "Memorial Day calling for reinvestigation, justice, and",
        "reconciliation that was the first wave of transitional justice",
        "activism in Taiwan. In the same year, Nylon states My name is",
        "Cheng Nan-jung, and I stand for Taiwan Independence.",
        "in Taiwanese at a public speaking event.",

        "In 1988 he started the New Country Movement and published the",
        "Republic of Taiwan Draft Constitution",

        "In 1989 Nylon faced arrest for sedition over his publishing of",
        "the draft constitution and he responded with Over my dead body",
        "He barricaded himself in his office and continued working for ",
        "71 days until his self-immolation on April 7th.",

        "In 2016 April 7th was declared Freedom of Speech Day to",
        "commemorate and continue to strive for Nylons pursuit of",
        "freedom and democracy."
